Google is set to announce their entry into the instant messaging relm. Insiders and technology watch groups claim Google is going to use the Jabber open-source framework as their backend system. As well, the new IM client will expand to compete directly with Skype as Google is going to incorporate a VoIP calling system (like Yahoo just did with their new IM client).
