Yahoo! Plus discontinued

Looks like I switched to Gmail at the right time.  Yahoo is discontinuing their “plus” services, which means if you subscribed to their plus email service, you are now going to loose 1gb of data storage.  I suspect that Yahoo will be changing their service at some point to match Google’s but this is still a blow.  Read more here.

  • Not quite true actually. Yahoo PLUS was a suite of services that included Yahoo Mail PLUS as it’s mail component. The seperate Yahoo Mail PLUS service is actually continuing.

    From Yahoo FAQ:

I am a Yahoo! Mail Plus user and upgraded to Yahoo! Plus what will happen to my service?

The premium benefits associated with your Yahoo! Plus membership will cease on April 22, 2006, however, your Yahoo! Mail Plus services will continue. You will still continue to receive the benefits of Yahoo! Mail Plus as long as you remain an active subscriber to the Mail Plus service.

  • Ah! You’re right…I was reading this:

What will happen to my Yahoo! Mail account? Your Yahoo! Mail Plus account features (such as 2 GB of storage and SpamGuard Plus) will end on April 22, 2006. Your Yahoo! Mail account will be downgraded to a “non-premium” version of Yahoo! Mail, which has 1 GB of storage. You will not lose any data, and you will still be able to access your email. However, if you have more than 1 GB of data, you will not be able to send or receive any new email until you delete messages in your mailbox.
