M$ released their “updated” browser today, officially. Here’s a “bottom line” review from ZDNet:
The bottom line: IE 7 was Microsoft’s one chance to
leapfrog ahead of the competition, but the company has only barely
caught sight of the current front-runners. For more features and
greater security, switch to Mozilla Firefox.
Take a look at this graph and you’ll see why IE sucks so bad. This is exactly what designers go through when trying to get a site to work with IE.
Nice list of Firefox extensions for web developers. I think I listed some of these before but you can never have too many lists.
First, let me start by saying that Microsoft still sucks. They launched the shopping section of their new Live.com service. But wait! I can’t see it…because I’m using a superior browser:

Siteadvisor is an extension for Firefox (also functions with IE) that works in conjunction with search engines to “advise” you if the site is safe to visit or not. It also places a small button on in your browser toolbar that alerts you to unsafe websites.
This guy performed a little Firefox experiment where he took the top 100 extensions for the browser and loaded them up…all running at the same time. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly to most) Firefox did well and was stable. I’d like to see IE try that crap. Read more here.
The alpha version of Firefox 2.0 comes out Friday. I’ll probably download it but won’t use it as my primary browser. I’m more interested (right now anyway) in what Opera 9.0 is going to be like.
The next version of the Opera browser has a listing of its features here. These “Technology Preview 2″ notes show what the next generation of the browser will have in it. Better CSS support, Bit Torrent support, widgets, and built in ad-blockers to name a few.
Downloaded IE 7b2 tonight. I find that it’s still slower than Firefox, still doesn’t render pages correctly (IE 6 actually looked better), and once again, Microsoft is still playing catch up to open-source. I’m not really impressed but will continue to put it through its paces. You can download IE 7b2 here.
For those of us lucky enough to have a WordPress.com account, I HIGHLY recommend that you get Akismet. It will nearly eliminate all trackback and comment spam on your site.

Opera, in celebrating their growth and popularity, has removed all banners and ads within their browser. I’ve read it’s permanent and also it’s only for a “limited time”. Either way, go grab a copy of this great piece of sofware. Its my second favorite browser (but a VERY close second…

Mozilla is asking people NOT to “jump the gun” here with this release. They recommend that only people who really want to test and try to find bugs download and use this version.
So, if that’s you, go for it.
